Kid Rock says, “Ty Stone is an undeniable talent. He is Blue Eyed Soul at its finest. His powerful and soulful voice are truly something to witness, and the songs he writes are even better.” At 11 years old, Ty Stone purchased his first 4 track recorder and began making music. He would spend hours locked in his parents’ basement recording his best imitations of the Beastie Boys and The Fresh Prince. As Ty matured so did his influences, his love for making music, and his amazing voice. After Ty taught himself to play several instruments, he began writing rock, country, and folk songs. He formed the band “2 Days Straight” in 1999 and began performing live shows in Detroit. The Southern Rock outfit found immediate success locally and was soon noticed by Nashville producer and writer, Blue Miller (India Arie, Blue October). Blue agreed to bring the band to Nashville and produce 2 Days Straight’s first record, “The Chrome Album.” It showcased Stone’s powerful vocals over heavy blues guitar riffs. The recording was critically acclaimed and locally successful, but never received the national attention that Stone began to seek . Just as the group was poised to follow up their success, Ty was laid off from his job at Great Lakes Steel. Though initially devastated, Ty quickly saw this as an opportunity to escape the family business and pursue his dreams of a career in music. He decided to move to Los Angeles, and got his first taste of performing as a solo act. Ty spent the next two years performing at every major venue in Los Angeles. He also recorded his first solo record, “TCMFB,” with Brian Irwin producing. Ty and his new band headlined several concerts in Los Angeles for Indie 103.1fm, and Ty’s song, “Beauty Queen,” was featured in full on the finale of ABC’s “The Bachelorette.” Ironically, it was back in Detroit where Ty would find his next major break. Before Stone had a chance to shop his new record in Los Angeles, one of Ty’s friends gave a copy of it to Kid Rock at a Piston’s game. Impressed, Kid Rock quickly offered to take Ty under his wing and signed him to a development deal with Top Dog records. Over the next 18 months “Ty Stone and the Truth” recorded an album with Kid Rock at his Clarkston, MI home. Driven to create a nationwide fanbase, Kid Rock hired Ty to open over 40 arena concerts for the “Live Trucker” tour. Ty’s fans now include Uncle Kracker, David Allen Coe, Hank Williams Jr., Big and Rich, Travis Tritt and many others. Stone resides in Nashville and is focusing on performing, as well as developing his songwriting career. He is currently signed to Top Dog/Atlantic Records, a member of NSAI, and represented by Music Attorney Thomas Valentino.
Detroit has always been known for its thriving music scene and diverse musical artists. From the blue-collared heavy music of Bob Seger to the rap-rock of Kid Rock, the city has consistently produced music that has captured the hard-working-harder-playing essence of the “Motor City.”
Embodying this hard-working spirit is singer-songwriter Don “Doop” Duprie and The Inside Outlaws. Born and raised in the industrial enclave of River Rouge, MI, this son of an auto mechanic and an Avon lady learned early on that hard work and doing the right thing always provided for his family. A veteran firefighter, Doop now conveys that same work ethic and honesty in all aspects of his musical career as a full-time singer/songwriter signed to a publishing deal with Nashville based Highland Publishing. He now divides his time between the two music cities.
Seeking an outlet for his lifelong passion for music and songwriting, Doop founded the first edition of the Inside Outlaws collective in 2005 with longtime friend and co-writer Ty Stone. The Inside Outlaws are a nationwide group of singer-songwriters dedicated to developing new talent through education and networking. In 2006 they established a relationship with Kid Rock and Ty Stone which eventually led to Stone being signed to Top Dog/Atlantic Records.
Doop garnered three nominations in the 2008 Detroit Music Awards for “Outstanding Country Artist, Songwriter and for his debut album, “Blood River,” recorded with legendary Detroit producer Jim Diamond (White Stripes). “Blood River” features ten songs that vary from down-home country rock and heartfelt Americana ballads to gritty Detroit rock ‘n’ roll. Each song tells the story of living life in a place that was once a burgeoning city and dealing with life’s trials and tribulations, it has found fans in listeners who appreciate good honest music that comes from straight from the soul. It’s Americana-Detroit style! The album received many favorable reviews from music magazines and websites across the globe and significant airplay on a number of Americana /country and rock radio shows worldwide.
Here is what two have to say:
”Blood River by Doop & The Inside Outlaws is the real deal — a raw, honest mix of workingman’s country and rock ‘n’ roll from the heartland that swaggers like The Waco Brothers.”-Cat (Radio Free Americana DJ)
“True country music loyalists rejoice! “Blood River,” the debut album by Doop and the Inside Outlaws, has more twang than you can shake a stick at, but it packs enough wallop to not be categorized as a “tear in my beer” country album. This album rocks harder than most country CD’s I’ve heard. There’s attitude a plenty.” –Ray Anderson, TheCelebrityCafe.com.
